As the market shows little sign of an ultimate upheaval domain owners are left to speculate on which names to keep, many portfolio owners I have spoken to recently have come across staggering losses, portfolios where ten to fifteen thousand dollars sales were common are now coming up empty as domain owners search for a new solution. There is a solution, higher exposure but unfortunately that means more time spent on your names, what then do we do?
What many domainers fear is opening up that DNJournal email and realizing a domain they decided to drop two weeks ago just sold for four to five figures, lord knows this has happened to me and it ruined my mood for the entire day. Despite this, registration fees have been on the rise and leaving us with making the hard decision on which of our (self) prized gems need to get the axe.
The first step is to do just that, unfortunately when we all signed on for registering these new domain names we also registered for another job. While this might not be what you want to hear there is a silver lining, these assets can be marketed further to start eliciting more income. While we have all considered moving our portfolios in the hopes of making more money we’re all inherently lazy, so what can we do:
- 1. Add content – There are a plethora of sources from which you can buy original and good content for as little as five dollars, by adding content you let the search engines know you exist and to begin sending you more traffic.
- 2. For sale – For some of us the whois info might be common sense but the truth of the matter is your average person has no idea what that is! You need to let the people know this domain is for sale, now that you have content you have larger number of people to market it to.
- 3. Submit your domains – Believe it or not some people go to all the major hot spots looking for a good domain, this includes Afternic, TDNAM, Sedo, BuyDomais and just about any of the major domain distributor/resellers. If you can get all of your names listed here you will have much more luck getting them sold.
Many domain portfolio holders have other Jobs and usually balk at this saying they have no time to do such things, this might be the case but to leave your domains alone means missing out on great opportunities. If you can’t do all of these things I would recommend hitting the forums and submitting a list of domains you might have for sale, at least this way you have a chance of making some money back before they drop.
Last option is to contact us, we are coming up with a solution to this issue to make an easy portal where one can submit your domains, get them parked on a platform where you can purchase content and receive price inquiries. Hope to hear from you!
