GoDaddy Apologizes to Customers

In an attempt to apologize to their customers for outages earlier this week GoDaddy.com is offering a 30% discount for the next seven days. To receive the discount, just type in Apology4a before you check-out. With the discount in place you can register a .com domain for about $9 for the year. This discount should be good for new customers as well as customers making renewals for their service. The hacker group anonymous has released a statement that they were responsible for the GoDaddy outage, but GoDaddy has neither confirmed nor denied whether or not that is true.

En.org Sale

The domain name en.org was sold for $21,586 this week at a GoDaddy auction. The domain name expired in August and was pending deletion or renewal. The En.org domain was originally owned by Enterprise Network. The sale of the En. org domain was the sixth highest .org sale this year.

DreamWorks Animations Domain Purchase

DreamWorks Animations registered four new domain names yesterday. The names are MumbaiMusical.com, MumbaiMusical.net, MumbaiMusical.org, and MumbaiMusical.info leading us to believe that DreamWorks Animations next movie will be called Mumbai Musical.

Sale.com Domain for sale

Right of the dot, LLC has announced that they will be selling the domain name sale.com to the highest bidder that goes over the company’s reserve price. Sale is the most popular word in both retail and e-commerce so the sale of a domain with the word sale in it is a big deal. The sale of this domain is expected to be one of the biggest in history, and some have even speculated that it may be the final time this particular domain will ever be up for grabs.

Microsoft Acquires more Halo domains

Microsoft has purchased several new domains for their very popular Halo franchise. Halo 4 is scheduled to be released in November of this year. Microsoft recently purchased the domains Halo7.net, Halo7.org, Halo8.org, Halo9.net, and Halo9.org. Microsoft had already purchased Halo5.com, and Halo9.com earlier this year. This should give Halo fans hope that this franchise will continue putting out new games for a very long time to come.

Pixel Capital spends $528,000 on two domains

Pixel Capital, an Australian company, purchased the domains accommodation.com and accommodations.uk.com for $528,000. The sale is listed as one of the top three global domain name sales for the year so far. Both websites are going to be travel oriented and socially based. Visitors will be encouraged to share their travel experiences with others.

Google offers free domain name and web hosting for one year

Google is offering a customized domain name and a full year of web hosting for free! Beyond the customized domain name and hosted website, you can also use the Intuit’s site building service to design your own website using a simple drag and drop format. You will also receive 30 days of free support, and you can purchase live support after that. After the initial free year the monthly cost will be an affordable $6.99.

Moniker and SnapNames back online

Moniker and SnapNames are both back up and running after an extended outage today. Some customers reported the outage as happening as early as 7 am this morning. Moniker has released an apology statement that claimed the problem was caused by network outages and that steps were taken to correct it, but did not go into any further detail than that.

169% increase in traffic for adult content provider Mynuts.xxx

College students Burt Lewis and Tim Smith probably never dreamed that a website they started to get some attention from the ladies would turn into such a lucrative enterprise. They originally started a site through freewebs.com where they would provide college term papers to female college students in exchange for some intimate action. The website did well, but the guys decided it would do even better with a xxx domain name. They are now launching the Mynuts.xxx site and focusing strictly on adult content. Their preliminary results after the launch show a 69% increase in organic traffic, and a 169% increase in direct navigation. The guys report that many college students are interested in the adult entertainment industry, and that they are doing so well financially that they may even quit school.

300 prequel domains purchased

The prequel to the movie 300 will be called “300: Rise of an Empire”, and this week MarkMonitor a brand protection company purchased several related domain names. The domains purchased were 300-riseofanempire.com, 300riseofanempire.com, 300theriseofanempire.com, and Riseofanempire.com. Although the domains were registered anonymously it is likely that Warner Bros. was the purchaser.
